REVIT Structure 2014 Analytical Model Visibility CADclip

$50 - 1 Year CADclips Video Training Subscription

Here's a great CADclip on controlling the display of the Structural Analytical Model.

The majority of REVIT users do not use the built in Structural Analysis tools (and for good reason) but controlling the display and visibility of the Analytical model has it's advantages.

Below - Analytical Model with Model elements in Wire Frame.

Workset Rules to Live By

1. Create a new local file every day and over write the previous file.

2. Check out and borrow what you need for editing.

3. Save and sync and relinquish as often as possible or when you leave your desk.

4. Use Reload Latest to do a one way loading of other peoples changes (if nothing has changed it will tell you).

5. Don’t leave an open project hanging for any length of time (ie: on the phone, in a meeting, away for lunch etc).

6. Save, Sync and relinquish and close the local file at the end of the day.

7. If rule #6 is broken you shall be banished back to the AutoCAD world for EVER !.

REVIT 2014 Optimized View Navigation Video

Pan, Zoom and Swivel FASTER in 2d, 3D and Perspective Views with Optimized View Navigation.

The Optimized View Navigation setting is in the Options dialog box Under Graphics, as you would expect.

Enabling the Optimized View Navigation makes it so 'while' you Pan, Zoom and Swivel some display aspects simply get disabled until the action is over. Which in turn makes the action a smoother and faster. I knew something was different but I couldn't put my finger on it.

It does not have any effect when in Realistic or Ray Trace mode however.

If the Optimized View Navigation is enabled it suppresses the display of: fill patterns (including materials), all element 'edges', all shadows and mechanical / structural hidden lines.

REVIT 2014 Energy Analysis Tutorial Video

$50 - 1 Year CADclips Video Training Subscription

Energy Analysis Tools are built into REVIT 2014 and it all ties into Autodesk 360.

Energy Info below on the left was simulated from Edmonton, AB, Canada on the right from Pheonix, AR, USA.

The video below shows how you can run two different energy simulations  within the same REVIT model and compare the results, greenbuild style.

REVIT allows us to enter Thermal Data to our Materials. This information shows up in our composite Walls, Floors and Roofs. That, along with the building function and geographic location etc. . . plays a big part in the overall energy analysis of the project.

I should point out that this is all within the 'out of the box' REVIT software. Now add-ins or extensions required.

Have a look at the video below.

REVIT Room Calculation Point CADclip

CADclips Announces New $39 and $99 REVIT Video Training Tutorial Subscription

Furniture, Casework, Specialty Equipment, Generic Models, Doors & Windows Now Have Room Calculation Points managed from within the family editor.

In REVIT 2014 that is.

Prior to 2014 these MEP categories already had room calculation points. Lights, Electricical Equipment, Mechanical Equipment & Air Terminals.

When you are in th family editor you just need to turn on the room calculation point toggle and it appears as shown below.

In order for this control to be enabled the family category has to be 'room friendly'.

Room friendly means the element 'knows' what room it is in. When this happens you can include room information when you schedule the elements or you can include these elements when you schedule the rooms. It works both ways.

Here's an image of the elements in the family editor after the room calculation point has been enabled.

The CADclip video tutorial below explains the above conditions and then some.

REVIT Skinny Parameters Button PERFECT !

I have made a small but consistant living on showing people the skinny, tiny, little parameters button on the REVIT properties palette.

Stretch the palette wider and that little sucker stays exactly the same size. Thank you. When training people I usually hold back on the existance of this little beauty until the time is right. Then BAM ! I  blow their minds.

Thanks autodesk . . . who ever said you don't care about us trainers.
