Keynotes Rock !

Thanks to for posting this CADclip on their site.

I recently spent a little time digging into the Keynotes aspect of REVIT and I have to say.
Wow ! That was far too easy. Why is everyone not using these?
Here's a basic sample image of what can be done.
With Keynotes you can link all materials and elements to an external 'keynotes' file and then tag the objects or materials with great ease.

There is a small investment of time to get your objects and or materials linked to a line item in the 'keynotes' file but the speed gain and consistancy in standards is fantastic.

All REVIT componenets and materials can use keynotes. You can have keynotes display the text (1/2" plywood), the 'key' value (80210.A1) or sequential numbering (1,2,3...).

Once you get these relationships linked up and saved to a template file you are off to the races.

You can also create bi-directional 'Keynote Legends' that do some amazing things.

Below is a 16 min. video CADclip demonstarting how keynotes can be used. Enjoy !

Yes, Revit's keynotes work great as long as you are keynoting a component. But try to put a keynote on a drafting line, like when you import details from AutoCAD or drawn them in a drafting view and you're out of luck. Revit will not attach a keynote tag to elements that are not model components. Big bummer!!!

Could you talk about making roof and soffit when you have a chance? When I was making the soffit of a gable roof, I found it is not too hard to make the bottom side of the roof. However, I have trouble to make the vertical face of gable roof.

You can definately keynote in a drafting view?!. And you can keynote autocad objects as long as they have been turned into basic 2d detail componenets. I would not expect the software to be able to keynote a single unintelligent 'line'. This is an object based software. You can however make any 2d object into a detail component. If you want to keynote autocad linework use ADT. REVIT uses 2d and 3d components.

A message to the Google humans and the Google Robots > Unlock my blog !

I have started to post Videos on You Tube. Search for 'CADclip'.

Every Monday I send the same stupid reply message to Google after they send me the same stupid automated apology on behalf of the Google Robots for locking down my blog. It's been 9 weeks since REVIT ROCKS has been locked down wothout warning.

I will get back into blogging as I own www.revitrocks.com anyway but with a different 'non-free' provider that is FOR SURE.

In the mean time if anyone is reading this I have started to post Videos on You Tube. Search for 'CADclip'.

Google Blogger sucks !
